The Economic Progress Institute is a nonpartisan research and policy organization focused on improving the economic well-being of low- and modest-income Rhode Islanders. Its work centers on analyzing economic policy issues to inform decision-makers and other stakeholders, rather than advocating a particular political stance. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, the organization serves residents whose economic circumstances influence opportunities and the state's vitality. Founded in 1999 by Linda Katz and the late Nancy Gewirtz, it was formerly known as The Poverty Institute. In December 2023 the institute announced a partnership with Rhode Island KIDS COUNT to increase the RI Works benefit.
