The project aims to connect people with schools, public services, jobs and communities, and to enable living in well-connected areas with new housing, while supporting the region's potential as a global centre for life sciences and innovation. It collaborates with local communities, industry partners, Network Rail and the Department for Transport to ensure the railway evolves with users’ needs over the long term.

The initiative targets residents, local businesses and research institutions along the route, seeking to support sustainable and inclusive regional growth. In April 2026, the company announced it was in detailed discussions with the University of Cambridge to reduce the line’s impact on Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory.
