The East Texas Symphony Orchestra (ETSO) is a nonprofit performing arts organization based in Tyler, Texas, with a mission to engage and inspire the community through music education and performance. Its activities span concert hall performances, classroom programs, and community outreach, including a subscription series at the Cowan Center and special events in collaboration with local institutions, as well as a free Labor Day weekend concert and intimate ensemble presentations. A central educational initiative is Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program, which serves thousands of fourth- and fifth-grade students in the region through standards-based curricula and a participatory concert with the orchestra. The ensemble relies on community support, including individual and corporate donations, foundations, and grants, with ticket sales representing a smaller portion of its annual funding. Under the direction of Executive Director Robin Hampton, ET SO operates with a board of local leaders guiding its activities and partnerships with organizations such as Tyler Junior College and Tyler ISD to expand its impact. The organization has a long-standing presence in East Texas since 1936, reflecting its role in the region’s cultural life.
