Darfur Women Action Group is a women-led, rights-based, anti-atrocities nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status founded in 2009 by Darfuri genocide survivor Ms. Niemat Ahmadi. DWAG envisions a world where justice for all, equal rights, and respect for human dignity are common values.

Darfur Women Action Group’s mission is to empower and amplify the voices of women and the historically-excluded, conflict-affected, Sudanese, enabling them to effectively participate in the decision making processes both in Sudan and in the diaspora. DWAG seeks to provide them with the tools, skills, and knowledge that will lead communities and community leaders to effect sustainable social change to combat violence, address massive human rights abuses, and work with others to prevent future atrocities and promote global peace.

The core priority for DWAG lies in advancing human rights and the rule of law to support the crisis-affected communities in Sudan within the context of 21st century challenges and the priority of evoking sustainable social change. This is accomplished through supporting Sudanese civil society–with a particular focus on women-led NGOs in Darfur, Sudan, and the greater diaspora–building our combined and institutional capacity that will invoke desirable changes, create platforms for the international community to hear directly from those most affected, and ensure that policymakers make informed policy decisions on intervention and action.

Our Philosophy is that “Change comes with and from people.” Women and the genocide-affected communities are not simply victims; they have a voice and the ability to lead and contribute to positive change if they are given the opportunity to and treated as equal partners in.
