DAK Americas is a United States–based manufacturing company and a subsidiary of the Mexican firm Alpek, with an employee count between 501 and 1,000. The company engages in PET recycling activities and has pursued significant asset investments, including acquiring the former CarbonLite bottle-to-bottle PET recycling facility in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2021 for $96 million. In 2022, reports describe further investment in Pennsylvania PET recycling assets totaling around $96 million for a bottle-to-bottle facility. The corporate history includes asset transfers from DuPont, with DuPont selling assets to DAK Americas in 2003 and DAK Americas acquiring its Cooper River plant from DuPont about twenty years ago. The Cooper River site near Charleston, South Carolina, previously produced polyester staple fiber manufacturing, which DAK Americas closed in May 2021, and the Charleston offices were also closed at that time. In January 2020, the company announced plans to invest in PET recycling and to add about 30 full-time employees in Richmond.
