Government Contracting Potential CUBRC's recent acquisition of a five-year, $24.1 million contract with the U.S. Navy Office of Naval Research highlights significant opportunities for expanding into federal defense markets. Leveraging this momentum, there is potential to target other branches of the military or federal agencies requiring advanced research, testing, and system integration services.

Defense Funding Relationships With a strong history of securing substantial Department of Defense funding—such as the $16 million allocated in FY2020—CUBRC demonstrates ongoing support and confidence from government sources. Exploring additional defense and security projects, especially around chemical, biological, or aerospace research, could open new revenue streams.

Innovative Research Collaborations Partnerships like those with PostProcess Technologies and Numerate indicate CUBRC’s focus on cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printing and toxicity assessment. These areas present opportunities to develop joint offerings or extend services to clients in additive manufacturing, medical diagnostics, or chemical safety testing sectors.

Specialized Facilities Access CUBRC’s unique hypervelocity and aerospace testing facilities position the company as a leader for clients requiring high-speed aeronautic and defense testing. Marketing these specialized capabilities to aerospace, defense, or scientific institutions could attract new high-value projects and research collaborations.

Strategic Market Focus Operating within the research services industry and maintaining a significant government client base, CUBRC may benefit from targeting emerging markets such as national security, bio-defense, and environmental safety. Offering tailored research solutions and advanced data analysis services can enhance competitive positioning and unlock additional spending opportunities.

Since CUBRC’s emergence in 1983, the company has grown from a small facilitator of research into a fully staffed, highly respected, scientifically crucial entity. While it is our mission to make a positive technological and economic impact on Western New York, the influences of our work stretch far beyond the WNY region by making significant technology contributions to our nation as a whole.

The technologies and facilities of CUBRC date back to the late 1950s, playing a major role in the development and testing of NASA’s Gemini and Apollo space capsules, the U.S. Space Shuttle as well as many other vehicles that travel through Earth’s atmosphere at speeds much greater than that of sound.

More recently, CUBRC has continued its pioneering work in the area of aeronautics by expanding and enhancing our Hypervelocity research facilities into a unique research and test capability, available nowhere else in the world. In 1988, CUBRC expanded our technology to reach beyond aeronautics. CUBRC has made tremendous contributions in defending our country against the effects of biological and chemical agents, improving clinical diagnostic instruments that test for diseases, helping to save lives on streets and highways, and helping people make critical decisions through the development of advanced information systems designed to provide crucial information extracted from massive, disparate sources of data.

CUBRC offers exciting challenges where ideas and skills are valued and individual contributions are respected, recognized, and rewarded. Continually adapting and expanding, CUBRC remains invested in the power of technology, of first-rate facilities, and of innovative, highly motivated minds to impact and benefit all humankind.
