Connections Individual and Family Services, Inc. (Connections), established in 1981, is a private, non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization founded by a group of community leaders to provide a safe and secure alternative from the “streets” for homeless, abused, or at-risk youth. The agency’s mission is to “Provide youth, families, and communities of South Central Texas opportunities for a brighter future.” Connections’ serves the following counties: Aransas, Atascosa, Bastrop, Bee, Caldwell, Comal, Frio, Goliad, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Karnes, Lee, Live Oak, McMullen, Refugio, San Patricio, Wilson, and Zavala. Currently, the agency provides social services to families and individuals through the following program areas: 1) Counseling and prevention education services for youth, adults, and families 2) Short-term residential services for runaway, abused or neglected, homeless, and at-risk youth 3) Crisis hotline and referral services 4) Kids Exchange services. While we do not have all the answers, we do know that life seems harder for our children and busier for adults. This mix can stir up more challenges than many have experienced in the past.
