The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) is a government administration formed by the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla tribes, based in Pendleton, Oregon. Its day-to-day operations are carried out by a staff of nearly 500, organized into multiple departments and programs under executive leadership. The tribe counts about 3,100 enrolled members, with a reservation that spans roughly 172,000 acres across northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington, and a nine-member Board of Trustees governs under a constitution adopted in 1949. CTUIR preserves its cultural heritage and rights secured by the 1855 treaty, including ongoing language preservation efforts and traditional practices such as Washat, while also serving the broader community on and near the reservation. The tribe communicates with members through the Confederated Umatilla Journal and KCUW 104.3 FM, and collaborates with external organizations on environmental and cultural initiatives.
