The Compensation Advisory Organization of Michigan (CAOM) is a private, not-for-profit association of insurance companies licensed to write workers compensation insurance in Michigan. Based in Livonia, Michigan, the organization collects, processes, and analyzes premium, loss, and other policy and claim data for member companies and state regulators, operating as the Designated Advisory Organization in Michigan for more than thirty years. CAOM develops market information related to proposed advisory pure premiums underlying rates and submits this to the state Data Collection Agency, and it also promulgates policy experience modifications for member carriers under their Experience Rating Plan. The organization seeks to expand its offerings through technology to improve efficiency and deliver cost-effective services, while its revenues come from membership fees, quarterly assessments based on market share, and certain products and services. Its sister organization, the Michigan Workers Compensation Placement Facility, handles the market of last resort for employers required to have workers compensation insurance and manages policy assignments to servicing carriers for the assigned risk pool.
