CoderDojo is an open-source, volunteer-led movement that runs free coding clubs for young people aged 5 to 17. At these Dojos, participants learn to code and build websites, apps, programs, and games in a collaborative setting led by volunteers. The initiative began in Cork, Ireland in 2011, founded by James Whelton and Bill Liao, and is supported by the CoderDojo Foundation, a charitable organization created to scale the movement globally. Operating within the IT services and IT consulting sector, the organization’s primary audience comprises youths and local organizers who operate Dojos, providing accessible pathways into coding. It relies on volunteers and partnerships to extend its geographic reach, with Dojos established in numerous countries and collaborations that provide project opportunities and resources for learners. In 2022, CoderDojo launched a brand-new website, signaling a modernization of its online presence.
