Cochin Shipyard Limited is a government-owned shipbuilding and ship repair company located in Kochi, Kerala, India. Incorporated in 1972 as a fully owned Government of India company, it has developed into a leading player in India's shipbuilding and shiprepair industry. The yard can construct ships up to 110,000 DWT and repair vessels up to 125,000 DWT, and has delivered two 95,000 DWT Aframax tankers. It has secured international shipbuilding orders from Europe and the Middle East and is nominated to build the country's first indigenous Air Defense Ship. Since 1982 it has offered ship repair services for navy, coast guard, fisheries and port trust ships as well as merchant vessels, and it trains 100 engineers each year into marine engineers; the company employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people.
