CNIO, based in Madrid, is a public institution focused on cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment, covering the full research continuum from basic science to clinical work. It comprises 22 Research Groups organized into seven Scientific Programmes and five Clinical Research Units that collaborate with multiple hospitals. Support comes from 19 Core Units that provide advanced facilities and technical expertise, alongside an Experimental Therapeutics Programme aimed at discovering new therapeutics. The center maintains collaborations with hospitals to translate research into clinical contexts. Since 2011, CNIO has held Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence recognition from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación. In 2025, CNIO's Melanoma Group partnered with Cancer Research UK and Cambridge-based Tailor Bio to develop a test intended to predict chemotherapy resistance.
