City Without Walls (cWOW) is a nonprofit contemporary art space based in Newark, New Jersey, and has operated since 1975 as New Jersey's oldest alternative art venue. It runs a professional fine art gallery that presents contemporary work through on-site exhibitions as well as off-site, online, and traveling formats. The organization provides programs and services to support artists and engage the community, including an online artist registry and educational offerings that connect artists with opportunities. cWOW implements youth-oriented initiatives such as ArtReach, which pairs high school students with working-artist mentors and offers gallery internships, Newark New Media residency, and City Murals public art projects that foster neighborhood pride and youth training. A notable recent development is the 2017 launch of the gallery’s 25th Annual ArtReach + Newark New Media exhibition, highlighting continued public programming.
