The City of Oxnard is a full-service city in Ventura County, located on California's Gold Coast, halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, and serves as the gateway to the Channel Islands. Incorporated in 1903 as a general law city, Oxnard is the largest city in Ventura County, with a culturally diverse population of over 200,000 and a role as a hub for commerce, tourism and industry. It operates under a council-manager form of government, with an elected mayor and four council members, and the council also oversees housing and development roles through related commissions. The city sustains more than 50 park facilities and works to preserve its historic downtown while pursuing development that supports business and quality of life. Recent administrative changes include the appointment of Kathleen Ashmore as Library Manager for the Oxnard Public Library.
