The City of Ketchum is a mid-sized municipal government located in the Wood River Valley of south-central Idaho. Founded in 1880 during the mining era, it serves both residents and visitors drawn to winter and summer recreation, dining, arts, and shopping. It operates year-round attractions and events, notably the Wagon Days Parade, and was designated a Dark Sky Community by the International Dark-Sky Association in 2018, with inclusion in the first International Dark Sky Reserve. In recent years the city has pursued housing- and community-focused initiatives, including an Ownership and Preservation Program launched in 2024 and a Lease to Locals pilot started in 2022. In April 2026 the City Council voted to end its contract with the Blaine County Sheriff's Office and reinstate a city-controlled police department.
