The City of Arlington, Washington, is a municipal government serving a mixed suburban and rural area in northern Snohomish County. Incorporated in 1903, it covers about 9.2 square miles and lies roughly 10 miles north of Everett and 40 miles north of Seattle. The city supports a combination of residential neighborhoods with retail and commercial activity and hosts light industrial and manufacturing activity around its city-owned Arlington Airport. As an employment center, Arlington supports approximately 2.2 jobs per household. The population has grown substantially over the last two decades, increasing more than fourfold since 1980 and now numbering around 15,000, with projections to double by 2025. Growth has been driven in part by the availability of suitable property and access to water and sewer services, which attract both residents and businesses to the area.
