The City of Anderson's Community Development department focuses on constructing and rehabilitating housing and revitalizing neighborhoods in income-eligible areas, as well as funding public facilities improvements in Anderson, Indiana. It administers a range of housing rehabilitation programs, including emergency rehabilitation, home repair, rental rehabilitation, deferred loans, exterior and interior rehabilitation, paint-and-fix, and downpayment assistance, and it also provides demolition funds for abandoned or dilapidated housing. Beyond housing, the department supports internal city operations with GIS mapping, data collection, demographic analysis, and comprehensive planning, serving departments such as the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Parks, Transportation (CATS), and Economic Development for redevelopment and master planning. It manages the Historic Preservation process and coordinates downtown revitalization through the Anderson Indiana Main Street program.
