Circus Smirkus is an international youth circus founded in 1987, operating from a 38-acre site in Greensboro, Vermont. Its Big Top Tour brings together about 30 young performers aged 10 to 18, who spend three weeks at the Greensboro campus creating a production before performing across New England beneath a 720-seat tent. The organization also runs Smirkus Camp, a residential circus arts program with sessions ranging from one day to two weeks, and Smirkus School Residencies, which bring professional instructors to Northeast schools to teach circus arts. Circus Smirkus frames its work as promoting the skills, culture, and traditions of the traveling circus and offering youth opportunities to engage in circus arts. To support growth, the organization is pursuing a capital campaign to build a permanent summer camp facility, backed by a $2 million challenge grant toward a $3.5 million goal, with the plan to increase capacity by about 200 campers.
