Christ Church Kirkland began to form as early as 1972 with passionate believers meeting as a homegroup. The group quickly grew to nearly 50 people with oversight being provided by Christ Church of Northgate. It was in this context that our identity of being a relational family community, centered on pursuing Christ, began to develop. Sensing that the Lord desired to birth a new work, a vision was presented to the homegroup to plant a church in the Kirkland area. On October 13, 1985, 140 people came together for our first service, held in the Carl Sandburg Elementary School gymnasium. By 1991 we had outgrown the gym and in order to facilitate our growing numbers and ministries we moved into our current building in a North Kirkland business park. Our people rallied together, generously volunteering their time and resources to the ambitious project of converting the 3rd floor of a light industrial building into a church facility! Throughout the 1990s a number of ministries started in earnest. In 1992 the parents of the church joined together to form a K-12 cooperative school in order to educate their children. Seeing the need for training the next generation in a relational and Christ-centered way, The Master’s Commission ministry began in 1994 with just five students and has since graduated over 330 young adults. The graduates of both our K-12 school and the Master’s Commission continue to serve the Lord as salt and light in our culture. By 2012, sensing the need to return to the simplicity of Christ as our first love, we began the task of reforming our own church culture, focusing on the core essential of being a community of believers who are growing in love with Jesus. With Kevin McCuen as Lead Pastor, Dr. Simon Mould as Associate Pastor and our Elders; Rand Unger, Peter Cline, and Bob Rankin, we are committed to cultivating the church’s core values into this new phase of our journey together.
