Christ Church Cathedral is an historic and vibrant Episcopal community located in the heart of downtown Houston. Founded in 1839, we are the city's oldest continuously worshipping congregation and serve as the spiritual center for the entire Episcopal Diocese of Texas—the "seat" of the Bishop. Our mission is to "proclaim the love of Jesus Christ through word and deed to the parish, the diocese, and the downtown community." We are a beacon of faith, celebrated for our world-class worship (blending traditional and contemporary Anglican choral liturgy), our dedication to radical welcome (open and affirming to all people, regardless of background or identity), and our transformative outreach and charity (we are the parent organization of The Beacon, serving the area's homeless). From surviving multiple fires to inspiring great leaders, our history is a testament to resilience. Today, we are a thriving metropolitan center for worship, learning, and service, welcoming thousands of Houstonians and visitors each year.
