Century Asphalt Materials was founded in 1998 by the Angel Brothers of Baytown Texas. Glenn, Greg, & Gary Angel purchased their first Astec asphalt plant and located it in Baytown, just miles away from their construction company headquarters. The Baytown plant primarily supplied hot mix asphalt to the construction company, Angel Brothers Enterprises, but slowly began to expand its market to other paving contractors in the area. In 2001, Century acquired a second asphalt plant from Cemex, Inc. located in downtown Houston, known as our Navigation Plant. This addition significantly increased Century’s customer base and production capabilities. In 2003, a third Astec plant was purchased and constructed in Katy, TX. Century’s biggest expansion occurred in November of 2004, when it purchased Martin Marietta Material’s Houston hot mix operations. The MMM acquisition added 5 hot mix plants to Century’s asphalt production network in Houston. Century continued its expansion in 2008 with the purchase of Ryan Material's asphalt plant in New Braunfels, TX, giving Century the ability to supply the Hill County of Texas from San Antonio to Austin. In just over a decade, Century Asphalt has grown from a single plant operation to a 16 asphalt plant network throughout Houston and the Hill Country of central Texas.
