Government AdministrationCalifornia, United States11-50 Employees

The Central Valley Flood Protection Board is a California government body tasked with reducing the risk of catastrophic flooding in the Central Valley. It serves as a liaison among the State, residents and property owners, Central Valley agencies, and the U.S. government, balancing flood protection with environmental and habitat considerations. Since 2011 it has overseen flood protection efforts in the region, and in 2014 an update to the California Water Code expanded its enforcement authority over modifications to the flood control system, encroachments, or related projects near the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and their tributaries.

The board is governed by seven Governor-appointed and Senate-confirmed members, with two non-voting ex-officio members from the Legislature. Based in Sacramento, California, the board operates with a small staff and holds monthly public meetings on the fourth Friday at Sacramento City Hall, which are webcast live, where it reviews and approves permits and board-sponsored projects.
