Central Pines Regional Council is a regional, member-based organization within the government administration sector that serves a seven-county area in North Carolina, headquartered in Durham. Founded in 1959 as the Research Triangle Regional Planning Commission, it coordinates planning and policy efforts across multiple jurisdictions. The council focuses on cross-boundary challenges, including transportation planning, sustainable resource management, housing affordability, and economic development, working with most municipalities and counties in Chatham, Durham, Lee, Johnston, Moore, Orange, and Wake. Its customers are the member governments across the seven counties, whom it supports through regional planning and coordination to address shared issues that cross jurisdictional lines. In 2025 the organization was recognized as an Accredited Transportation Demand Management Organization by the Association for Commuter Transportation.
