The Center for Translational Data Science at the University of Chicago advances data-driven work in biology, medicine, healthcare, and environmental science by building and operating large-scale data platforms for research. It provides secure, compliant workspaces and a broad data ecosystem to researchers studying conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, birth defects, veterans’ health, pain management, opioid use disorder, and related societal issues. The center also develops machine learning and AI methods that analyze the data stored in its platforms. Based in Chicago, Illinois, and affiliated with the University of Chicago, the center collaborates with partners worldwide. Its data ecosystem spans more than a dozen data commons and more than 10 petabytes of data from over 600,000 patients, all accessible through the open-source Gen3 platform with privacy protections.
