Founded in 1962, Cathay Life Insurance was the first publicly-listed insurance company in Taiwan (1964). Its 8 million policyholders account for one-third of the country’s population, and Cathay Holdings has one-quarter of the country’s assets under management. The company is the only financial institution in Taiwan in the Global Fortune 500. 

Globalization and open cross-strait market brought challenges as well as opportunities. We actively expanded into China and Vietnam in 2005 and 2007. We are now the largest offshore operator in Taiwan with 31 contact points in China and six subsidiaries in Vietnam. In 2015, we were officially certified as an OIU (Offshore Insurance Unit) by the Central Bank of Taiwan.
