Casual Adventure is a specialty retail store focused on outdoor and sporting goods, based in the Virginia Square area of Arlington, Virginia, and has been family-owned since 1955. Its origins trace back to 1945, when Oscar Stern opened a small grocery storefront; in 1985 the business changed its name from The Surplus Center to Casual Adventure as its focus shifted toward outdoor gear. Today the shop carries established outdoor brands such as Arc'Teryx, The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Mammut, Asolo, Merrell and Eureka, with newer additions including Easton, Louisville Slugger, and Demarini. It serves a regional customer base from the Washington metro area and emphasizes knowledgeable service alongside a carefully curated merchandise mix. In 2024 it partnered with SmartWool for an Earth Day recycling initiative and has since earned recognitions including a 2026 Retailer Growth Award and the NRF's 2024 America's Retail Champion honor, along with a 2022 SWaMmy Honoree designation.
