Cassata High School is a private, nonprofit outreach school that is committed to providing young people with another chance at success. Cassata’s mission has been the same since its inception in 1975: To provide an effective, quality education that enables students of all backgrounds to raise their educational level and complete their secondary education. At its core, Cassata is about guaranteeing that every individual has the opportunity to pursue a quality education and improve their skill set to become a higher-paid, more skilled and more fulfilled member of society. Most of Cassata’s students have had difficulty in traditional schools and face serious obstacles to completing their education—for the 2013/2014 school year, 33% of graduates were the first in their family to earn a high school diploma and 40% were former dropouts. Cassata has a demonstrated legacy of success at transforming struggling youth into high school graduates. In fact, 83% of 2013/14 graduates reported enrolling in 2 or 4-year colleges, enlisting in the military or starting trade school. Cassata is often our students’ second, third or even final chance to earn a diploma. Cassata’s unique educational model includes morning and afternoon sessions so students who work or who have children can still attend school; small class sizes which allow for one-on-one instruction; and an individualized, self-paced curriculum. Many students find that the small size allows them to become engaged in student life where they may have felt unconnected to their former schools. Cassata’s primary activity is its High School Program, which is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Catholic Conference. The school also offers GED preparation.
