Careers Unlimited was founded 1985 with the radical notion that placement should be driven by human resources principles and not by sales and numbers. Until that time, employment agencies were basically staffed by sales people who focused on sales and managed by the numbers.

The founder of CUI, Arlette Dumais, had worked on the other side of the desk in human resources, which included working with staffing firms to fill positions. It was this eye-opening experience that would eventually shape her belief that placement should be about human resources and not about filling quotas.
