CarbonScape develops biographite anode material for lithium-ion batteries using renewable wood biomass as feedstock. The material is engineered for electric vehicle batteries and is produced from residues generated by the timber, lumber, and forestry industries through a carbon-negative process. By localising production, the company seeks to shorten supply chains and decarbonise the production of green battery materials. Headquartered in Marlborough, New Zealand, CarbonScape operates as a small to mid-sized player in chemical raw materials manufacturing. Since 2016 it has been developing its biographite technology, and recent developments include expanding offices into North America and establishing a demonstration facility in Kotka, Finland, along with supply agreements to source woodchip feedstock for future plants.
