CAPACares works to prevent and address child abuse by promoting changes in individuals, families, and communities that build healthier relationships and support healing. Based in Independence, Missouri, it serves the children and families of Jackson County through a spectrum of services, including counseling for abuse survivors and trauma, as well as art and play therapies. The organization provides home-based case management and education designed to strengthen parent-child relationships, along with education programs such as parenting classes and mandated reporter training. With a relatively small to mid-sized staff, CAPACares allocates resources to deliver these services. It also conducts community and school-based outreach to raise awareness and support prevention efforts. In August 2024, the organization announced the appointment of Dr. Kristina Jones as President and CEO.
