Candela Books + Gallery is a small, Boulder-like operation based in Richmond, Virginia, that combines book publishing with a gallery space dedicated to photography. Founded in 2010, the company publishes thoughtfully designed photography books and operates a gallery that presents work by established and emerging photographers, often accompanied by related programming such as juried invitational exhibitions. Its publishing focus centers on preserving and documenting significant photographic work, with partnerships that help extend the reach of its titles through established distribution channels. The gallery side emphasizes work that contributes to the discourse of photography as a fine art medium, housing a studio space and darkroom to support its activities. The organization positions itself at the intersection of publishing and exhibiting, aiming to advance photographic practice and its history for collectors, scholars, and enthusiasts alike.
