Calleguas Municipal Water District is a utilities provider formed in 1953 to supplement the water supply for southern Ventura County. It serves as a wholesale water supplier to 19 member purveyors, delivering water to about 640,000 people across a 365 square mile service area. The district is a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and maintains reservoirs, groundwater injection wells, pump stations, hydroelectric generators, and 140 miles of large-diameter pipelines. The organization operates with a mid-sized workforce and is governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors, with its base in Thousand Oaks, California. In April 2024, Calleguas announced a collaboration with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and Triunfo Water and Sanitation District, with construction firm Kiewit, to move water into holding tanks and toward recycling via the Malibu watershed.
