The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) is a professional body based in London, founded in 1937 to advance gastroenterology across the United Kingdom. It represents more than three thousand members from physicians, surgeons, radiologists, scientists, nurses and dietitians. The BSG engages with national institutions such as the British Royal Colleges and the Department of Health, and maintains international ties through the World Gastroenterology Organisation and United European Gastroenterology, while supporting research and providing a platform for publication and discussion, including co-ownership of Gut, Frontline Gastroenterology, and BMJ Open Gastroenterology. The society encompasses multiple sections across subspecialties such as Colorectal, IBD, Liver and Radiology, and holds an annual scientific meeting that gathers thousands of professionals. In 2025 it piloted a Jobs Fair at the BSG LIVE conference in Glasgow to support the gastroenterology and hepatology workforce.
