Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Boston Plan for Excellence operates a PreK–12 pathway built around neighborhood-based Teaching Academies. It runs two academies in Roxbury’s Dudley neighborhood—the Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School and the Dearborn STEM Academy—and supports teacher development through the Boston Teacher Residency program, established in 2003. Modeled after teaching hospitals, the approach places resident teachers with experienced colleagues to apply research-based practices, monitor their impact on student learning, and refine instruction to improve outcomes. The organization serves students and families in the Dudley community and collaborates with Boston Public Schools to develop and sustain urban educators through a city-wide network of teacher support. Through the Dudley Promise Corps, it provides extended learning time and academic support to students in Dudley. In September 2025, Boston Plan for Excellence launched the Boston Educator Pathway to connect Boston students with educators and expose them to teaching as a career.
