The Borough of Etna is a municipal government in the Pittsburgh region of western Pennsylvania, situated along the Allegheny River. Covering about one square mile, the borough is bordered by Millvale, Shaler Township, and Sharpsburg, offering proximity to downtown Pittsburgh and to regional shopping, cultural venues, and higher education. Since its industrial roots as a mill town, Etna has re-emerged as a residential community with a diversified local economy that includes more than 160 businesses, ranging from industrial firms to family-owned shops. Etna functions as a municipal government serving residents and local businesses within its borders. In 2020, the Borough, together with the Etna Community Organization, received the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for the Etna EcoDistrict. In January 2021, Etna Borough and the multidisciplinary firm evolveEA were recognized with a 2020 Chapter award for the Etna EcoDistrict Plan.
