The Big Hole Watershed Committee is a small environmental services organization based in Divide, Montana, formed about 25 years ago to address challenges in the Big Hole River watershed in southwest Montana. It operates as a consensus-driven forum that brings together ranchers, utilities, local government, sportsmen, conservationists, tourism interests, and outfitters to explore water-use and watershed management issues and find common ground. Its work includes voluntary drought planning, early river recreation rules, four-county land-use planning efforts, predator-conflict reduction programs, and restoration of headwater and mainstem waterways and irrigation infrastructure. The BHWC works closely with technical advisors from local, state, and federal agencies and partners with other conservation organizations to develop restoration and management plans for the watershed. It is regarded as a trusted resource in the Big Hole River valley for watershed conservation and has ongoing collaborations, including a 2025 partnership with WGM Group to explore storing water in high alpine meadows.
