BERI is an independent public charity based in Berkeley, California, focusing on improving long-term prospects for human civilization’s survival and flourishing. Its primary approach is partnering with university research groups working to reduce existential risk, providing them with free operational support. By handling financial management, HR, grant administration, and compliance, it frees teams to concentrate on their mission-critical work. As an operational hub within a broad ecosystem of researchers, non-profits, think tanks, and philanthropists, BERI helps deploy resources and address shared challenges. It collaborates with groups such as CHAI at UC Berkeley, CSER at Cambridge, CLTC at UC Berkeley, and the Oxford China Policy Lab to advance its mission. In 2018, the organization announced the Round One Project Grant and its winners.
