Bedford Water is a regional utility based in Bedford, Virginia. Formed in 2012 through the merger of the Bedford County Public Service Authority and the City of Bedford Water and Wastewater Services, it provides water and wastewater services to residents and businesses in Bedford County and the Town of Bedford. The organization also supplies wholesale water to the Western Virginia Water Authority for the Smith Mountain Lake service area in Franklin County and offers operational support to Bedford County Public Schools for several wastewater treatment plants. Because the authority has no taxing power, its revenues come primarily from charges for water and sewage disposal based on metered and unmetered usage. Bedford Water operates within the utilities sector and pursues partnerships to extend its service footprint. In 2024, it announced a collaboration with the Western Virginia Water Authority to serve customers across a larger geographic area. In 2025, it partnered with Schneider Electric to upgrade the plant's equipment and modernize its control systems.
