The Baltimore Humane Society is an independent, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter based in Reisterstown, Maryland. Founded in 1927 by Mrs. Elsie Seeger Barton, the organization provides low-cost veterinary care to the public and operates a pet cemetery with grief-support services. It does not receive ongoing government funding and relies on donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations, as well as fundraising events, to support its animal-care operations. Its core mission is to offer a temporary home and safe refuge for stray, unwanted, and homeless animals and to seek permanent homes for each animal in its care. It promotes humane treatment and population control through affordable spaying and neutering, public education, and the operation of a cemetery for pets. In June 2024, Baltimore Humane Society announced the launch of Avenue K9, expanding its program offerings.
