The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is a city government agency in Baltimore, Maryland, responsible for delivering drinking water to 1.8 million people in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area and treating the region’s wastewater. Its remit includes managing urban streams and stormwater systems, overseeing riparian restoration, and regulating recreational activities at reservoirs, while performing a broad range of internal operations such as engineering, maintenance, security, and administrative functions. DPW also provides solid waste services, including collection of household trash and recycling, bulk item programs, street sweeping, and operation of drop-off centers and the landfill, along with activities like vacant-property cleanup, graffiti removal, rat control, harbor cleaning, and community cleanups. The department serves residents and other city and regional stakeholders, addressing everyday utility needs, environmental management, public health, and emergency coordination with other agencies. In 2025, Baltimore City announced a collaboration with NWN Corporation to create an Intel-powered AI computer resource lab in the Greenmount East neighborhood as part of digital inclusion efforts.
