Badak LNG operates a long-running liquefied natural gas plant in Indonesia, with its headquarters in Jakarta and a production facility located in East Kalimantan. The project began after Huffco, a Pertamina production-sharing contractor, discovered a large natural gas reserve in 1972, and PT Badak NGL was established in 1974 to operate and maintain the plant under Pertamina's framework. Through successive additions of LNG trains—from C and D in the 1980s to H in the late 1990s—the facility reached a capacity of about 22.5 million tons per year, supported by a dedicated gas-supply network including a 42-inch pipeline and four parallel lines. This history positions Badak LNG as a seasoned asset within Indonesia’s LNG industry and a significant contributor to the country’s LNG supply chain.
Historically, the plant has exported LNG to buyers in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea, illustrating its role in regional energy markets. In 2026, Badak LNG received multiple awards at industry events recognizing safety, ESG, and leadership, underscoring its standing in the global LNG sector.
