Backyard Brains develops affordable, open-source tools that bring real brain science into classrooms, labs, and homes. Their hands-on kits let students record and explore neural, muscle, and heart signals using the same principles as professional researchers. From middle school through graduate studies, learners can observe neuron firing, brainwaves, and even control neuroprosthetics without a traditional lab. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the company operates in the appliances, electrical, and electronics manufacturing ecosystem, delivering educational hardware and open resources. It has earned recognition from the White House, NIH, and the Society for Neuroscience, and in August 2022 announced a partnership with Osunhitech to expand its reach.
