Austin Shakespeare is a professional theater company based in Austin, Texas, affiliated with Actors Equity. It produces Shakespeare performances regularly, currently via Zoom and with plans to return to live shows at the Rollins Theater at the Long Center, Zilker Hillside Theater, and Curtain Theatre—a replica of an Elizabethan stage. Founded in 1985, the company has also staged free Shakespeare in Zilker Park, reaching more than a million attendees.
The organization conducts educational outreach in local schools, offering classroom activities led by actors and directors to help students perform Shakespeare's language and explore his ideas. In 2024, Austin Shakespeare partnered with the University of Austin to present a free Romeo and Juliet at the Curtain Theatre, blending traditional drama with contemporary creative approaches.
