The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is a nonprofit membership organization that brings together research libraries and archives across major public and private universities, federal government agencies, and large public institutions in Canada and the United States. It supports the sector by advocating for the value of libraries, developing leaders, and shaping policy to promote equitable access to knowledge. Based in Washington, DC, ARL operates to address shared challenges and opportunities in the library and research ecosystem. Recently, ARL invited Clemson University Libraries to join as the association’s 126th member, with an effective start date of January 1, 2026. The organization also participates in policy-focused events and collaborations, including involvement in Fair Use Week and partnerships with allied library organizations.
