The Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) is a nonprofit association representing more than 80 independent colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. Based in Harrisburg, the organization conducts advocacy and policy work to advance the interests of its member institutions in higher education. Collectively, these schools educate about 279,000 students each year and enroll the largest share of four-year-degree seekers in the state, while serving a substantial portion of lower-income learners (46% of Pell Grant recipients in PA). AICUP emphasizes the affordability and outcomes of its member degrees, noting strong on-time graduation rates and relatively low debt compared with peers. The association also highlights its broader economic impact, with member schools contributing about $29 billion to Pennsylvania's economy annually, rising to $65 billion when linked with affiliated hospitals, and generating more than $1.5 billion in state and local taxes. Recent leadership changes include the appointment of Glynis A. Fitzgerald to the board and Elizabeth Meade as board chair in 2026.
