Aspiring Scholars Directed Research Program (ASDRP) is a nonprofit summer program in the Bay Area that provides high school students, especially those underrepresented in STEM or socioeconomically disadvantaged, with opportunities to conduct original scientific research. Mentors with academic or industry experience guide students as they work on research projects and use laboratory equipment valued at over $200,000 to advance their work. Projects are designed as original investigations intended to expand current knowledge, with students learning scientific reading and writing, producing research papers, and presenting at an end-of-summer expo. ASDRP supports students after the program by helping them gain placements in university research laboratories and industry internships in subsequent summers. The organization is based in Fremont, California, and began with its inaugural cohort in 2018.
