APIC is a nonprofit professional association for infection preventionists, serving more than 15,000 members. It is based in Arlington, Virginia. The organization aims to create a safer world through infection prevention, supporting safer care and improved health at a lower cost. Its members work in healthcare institutions and also serve as educators, researchers, consultants, and clinical scientists. Although most are affiliated with acute care settings, an increasing number practice in ambulatory and outpatient services, where they lead programs to protect patients and personnel from healthcare-associated infections.
