Animal Welfare Association is a private, no-kill nonprofit based in Voorhees, New Jersey, founded in 1948 to address unwanted pets. It operates without government funding and relies entirely on private donations to sustain its activities. In its adoption program, dogs, cats, rabbits, and small animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for worms and fleas, micro-chipped, and offered with one month of pet health insurance; adoption and surrender fees support the ongoing work. It has earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for two consecutive years, reflecting credibility in governance and fiscal stewardship. In January 2026, AWA participated in the Pins for Purrs fundraising event to support its cat programs. In 2025, it hosted a spay/neuter clinic for feral cats as part of the Global Feral Fix Challenge.
