Americans for Financial Reform is a nonpartisan nonprofit headquartered in Washington, DC. It emerged after the 2008 financial crisis when more than 200 civil rights, labor, consumer, community-based, faith, business, and other groups joined to establish a public-interest voice on banking, finance, and financialization. Its work centers on convening and guiding coalitions to reshape the financial system toward an equitable and sustainable economy. The organization pursues policy development and analysis, advocacy, coalition building, research, education, and mobilization at both federal and state levels. Through these activities, it engages a broad network to press for reforms in banking and financial policy. In December 2023, the group announced the launch of ESGexplainer.org, a digital resource intended to explain environmental, social, and governance factors in investing, developed by the Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund and its Take on Wall Street initiative.
