American Sailing (ASA) is a United States-based association focused on sailing education within the spectator sports sector. Founded in 1983, ASA standardizes sailing knowledge and has educated more than half a million sailors. Headquartered in Marina Del Rey, California, the organization links a network of sailing schools, charter companies, professional instructors, and sailors with more than 400 affiliated schools across the U.S., Caribbean, Europe, Central America, and Asia. The ASA framework centers on eight certification levels, from Basic Keelboat to Offshore Passagemaking, combining theory, practical skills, and safety within legal requirements. A recent development includes a collaboration with SailTime Annapolis to introduce newcomers to sailing via a First Sail Workshop.
